Walter Richard Magadieu of Sherborn, MA and Southport, ME, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, NY, on June 25, 1933, he was the son of the late Walter John and Nelle (Gordon) Magadieu.

Dick was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, and received his MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He began his career in finance at Merck & Company and later worked at Blyth, Eastman, Dillon & Company before moving to Massachusetts in 1976 to join Loomis, Sayles & Company, where he was a Chartered Financial Analyst and Vice President until his retirement in 1996. His area of expertise was analysis of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. In his spare time, Dick enjoyed traveling, gardening and classical music.

Dick is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy (Kortjohn) Magadieu of Sherborn, and his children, John R. Magadieu and his wife Cheryl of Franklin, MA; Catherine M. Sagui and her husband Claudio of Binago, Italy; Thomas Magadieu and his wife Nancy of Falmouth, ME, and Carol M. Zeroual of Boxborough, MA. He leaves a sister, Rita M. Parker of Nashua, NH, and was predeceased by two sisters, Anne M. Magadieu of Atchison, KS, and Ruth M. Reams of Norfolk, VA. He also leaves eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
