Thomas “Bud” Thorne 93, passed away Monday, September 25th in Peachtree City, Georgia after a brief illness. Son of the late Archille and Susan (McCluskey) Thorn, Bud was born in Boston, grew up in Ashland, and was a 50 year resident of Holliston, Massachusetts. He would have been 94 years old Saturday, September 30th.
Bud was a Navy veteran of WWII and served on the U.S.S. Terry where he fought in the South Pacific including the battle of Iwo Jima. After a fifty year tenure with General Electric, he retired in 1978 as the Traffic Manager of GE’s Clock and Timer Division. Bud was an avid gardener, a masterful bridge player, active in the Holliston Senior Center, and a loyal Boston Red Sox fan. He was also very proud to have been an original cohort member of the Framingham Heart Study from 1948 until his death.
Beloved husband of the late Beulah (Kane) Thorne, Bud is survived by his brother Robert E. Thorne of Ashland, his sister Barbara (Thorne) Fredericks of La Habra, California, his daughter and her husband, Karen and Jim Crowley of Peachtree City, Georgia, and his son and his wife, Brent and Kathy Thorne of Northville, Michigan. Papa is deeply cherished by his four granddaughters, Trisha, Katie, Elisa and Karen, and his four great-grandchildren, Noah, Joshua, Jimmy and Nora. Uncle Bud is also lovingly remembered by twenty-six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sister, Kathleen “Kay” (Thorne) Phipps, brother, Richard “Randy” Thorne, and sister, Marie Thorne.
Visiting Hours will be held on Friday 29 September from 4-8 at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington Street, (Rt. 126) Holliston, MA with Funeral Mass at 1130 on Saturday September 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Washington Street, Holliston. Internment will follow at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Framingham, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Friends of the Framingham Heart Study”, 73 Mt. Wayte Avenue, Framingham, MA 01702.
