Sylvia R. Markell, 92, of Falmouth and formerly Newton, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2015. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Rose (Bearson) and Robert Paul.

Sylvia was an avid reader, enjoying book after book. She enjoyed finding sea shells on the beach, playing tennis and exercising in the water. She was a member of the Falmouth Jewish Congregation.

She is survived by two sons, Alan Gootman, and Peter Gootman and his wife Judi; 4 grandchildren, Jason, Andrew, Jeff and Alex and 5 great-grandchildren, Claire, Ben, Julia, Jack and Camryn. She is predeceased by her first husband, Harry Gootman and her second husband Robert Markell; two brothers, Harold and David Paul and her daughter in law, Dianne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Falmouth Jewish Congregation, 7 Hatchville Rd, Falmouth, MA 02540 or to Falmouth Public Library, 300 Main St, Falmouth.
