Martha Elaine (Fish) Greenwood, of Holliston passed away on May 10, 2016. She was born on February 2, 1936, in New London, CT the daughter of Sands and Winifred Fish. After attending Fitch High School and Putnam High School she graduated from Willimantic State Teachers College in 1958 and received her Masters degree in Language Arts from Framingham State College in 1985. She was a teacher at both the Holliston and Westboro Elementary Schools for 23 years as a Reading Teacher. Martha was active in the First Congregational Church of Holliston as a member of the deaconate, Mary Wells Club, and the Tuesday Morning Group.

Growing up Martha, along with her with extended family, summered at their beloved Webster Lake camp for 36 years. Many happy memories are shared by the entire family of their time together at camp. After retirement, in 1996, Martha enjoyed traveling, winters in Florida and Arizona and most memorably, trips to friends in Norway. She was an accomplished water color artist and many of her paintings, note cards and Christmas cards are enjoyed greatly by family and friends. She enjoyed knitting and reading at her lakeside home in Sunapee, NH for the past thirty years. Martha loved people and conversation and always looked on the positive side of life. She loved humor and laughter and hosted many happy family gatherings and game nights at Lake Sunapee. Martha and John’s large families were always a source of great enjoyment.

Martha was married to John R. Greenwood III who has been by her side for 57 years as a loving husband and dedicated caregiver at the end of Martha’s life. She was the beloved mother of Roger Greenwood and his wife, Laurie, of Milford and Leslie Halnen and her husband John of Marion. She was a dedicated and loving Nana to Sarah Soares and husband Jose Soares, Joshua Greenwood, Courtney Halnen and Kelly Halnen and to three great-grandchildren Sebastian, Max and Oliver Soares. She leaves behind her sisters, Nancy Anderson and the late Kenneth Anderson, the late Cynthia and Roger LeMaire, Susan and Charlie Eastman, and brother Alden and Regina Fish.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19 from 4-7 pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington, https://www.chesmorefuneralhome.com/ A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 20th at 11 am at the First Congregational Church in Holliston. A graveside burial service will follow in the family cemetery in Mystic, CT at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, 725 Washington St, Holliston, MA, 01746.
