Arthur James “Jim” Moore Jr, 84, of Holliston, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024. Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Ruth (Kean) and Arthur James Moore. He was the husband of 47 years to Sue (Joyce) Moore of Holliston.

Jim was the owner of Competitive Centerless Grinding in Holliston for 40 years. He was a member of the US Airforce, serving as a Fire Suppressionist in the airfields. He proudly served on the Holliston Fire Department for 37 years, retiring in January 2023. During his lengthy career with the department, he quickly rose through the ranks and was subsequently promoted from Engine 1 Captain to Deputy Chief / EMS Supervisor in January 2001. As an EMT, Jim treated and transported numerous patients to local hospitals. As a crew chief and duty officer, he ensured the appropriate resources were used to manage emergency incidents. He oversaw department members assigned to the annual Boston Marathon detail in Hopkinton. He represented the department at numerous award ceremonies and coordinated the annual “Fill the Boot” voluntary toll road for the Muscular Dystrophy Association at Rossini Corner every August.

Jim mentored numerous department members and was always willing to cover for another officer or answer a question about something they had not previously encountered. He worked collaboratively with other town departments, and from time to time would serve as department spokesperson to the media.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his children, James M. Moore, Laura Moore, Toni Ventresca, DW DeGanne, and Scott DeGanne. He also leaves behind his sister, Sue Lohkamp; 7 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Kenney.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. A funeral home service will take place on Friday, April 19th at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
