Frederic G. Penniman, Jr., 83, of Hopkinton MA died on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Metrowest Framingham after a brief illness. Fred was born and grew up in Whitman, MA. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany immediately after WWII. He received a B.A from Boston University and an MBA from Northeastern University. Fred spent his entire career at the U.S. Army Natick Research and Development Laboratory, first as a physicist and then as a research administrator.

He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years Lois (Eames) Penniman. He is survived by his brother Harris, sister Faith and predeceased by his sister Priscilla and his son Frederic G. Penniman III. He is also survived by his son John Warren Penniman of California; daughter Nancy wife of David Kearns of Rockport, MA; son Daniel Penniman and his wife Wendy of Milford NH; and daughter Elizabeth Penniman of Hopkinton and his grandchildren Jaime (Penniman) Derderian of California, Stephanie and Michael Kearns and Erica, Christina, and Jonathan Penniman. He was great-grandfather to Emily Hale, Waylin and Quinn Derderian.

He was very interested in community affairs in Hopkinton and served on the Hopkinton Finance Committee and Democratic Town Committee. He was a member of the Hopkinton Lions Club. After he lost his sight a few years ago he was able to continue to enjoy activities at the Senior Center and appreciated the kindness of the staff. He also enjoyed listening to music, especially the old songs of the Heritage String Band and spending many summer vacations on Cape Cod in Brewster.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 from 4-7p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 12:30 pm in the United Protestant Parish of Carver 115 Main Street Carver, MA. Burial will follow in the Lakenham Cemetery in Carver.
