Donna J. (Harrington) Hamm, of Ludlow, formerly of Hopkinton, was set free
Thursday, September 15, 2005 following a courageous 11 year battle with
cancer. She was cared for at home by family and accompanied by friends. She
passed at home in the presence of her beloved partner of 22 years William
Hallcott, Jr.
Born July 21, 1951 she was raised in Ashland and later moved to Hopkinton
where she raised her family until her move to Ludlow in 1990. She started a
home day care while in Hopkinton and continued in Ludlow for what totaled over
15 years. She always gave herself to others and cared for those around her
including caring for her parents George and Lorraine Harrington in their final
years.
In the many years of caring for children, she welcomed both the children and
their families into her own family, always caring for their needs as well as
her family’s. After retiring from day care in 1998 due to her illness she
kept in close contact with them including Kendra Page, Kayla Perez, Diane, Tom
and Jake Janas, as well as Barbara, Ben, and Jacob Conlon all of whom were
able to spend time with her in her final days.
She is survived by her beloved William Halcott, Jr, Children Laurie and
Philip Hamm, Grandchildren Philip Hamm III, Tyler Hamm, and Benjamin Dube,
Brothers Wayne and Raymond Harrington, Aunts Jackie Norton and Marcie Thibault,
including Aunt and Uncle Tom and Arlene Hussy of California, best friends Peg
Anderson and Florina Brackett, as well as many various cousins, nieces and
nephews.
Services will be Thursday September 22, 2005 at 11 am at Chesmore Funeral
home in Hopkinton, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers the
family requests that donations be made in Donna’s memory to the Susan G. Komen
breast cancer foundation or the American Cancer Society.
