Shirley Stone passed away on Saturday, April 5th at Countryside Healthcare in Milford, MA. at the age of 93 years old. Born Shirley DeGanne on October 22nd, 1931, in Worcester to Joseph and Winifred DeGanne, she grew up in Holliston, graduating from Holliston High in 1949. Siblings included three sisters – June Fabrizio, Betty Klobucher, Helen Stanley, and three brothers – Joseph DeGanne, David DeGanne, Edward DeGanne.
She is the loving mother of Martha Sayewich and her husband, John of Hopedale, Thomas Taylor of Holiday, FL, and Joseph Taylor and his wife, Beth of Milford. She leaves her beloved grandchildren John Sayewich III, Julie Randall, Alicia Sayewich, Amanda Sayewich, Courtney Taylor, Justin Taylor, Christopher Taylor, and great-grandchildren – Jake Randall, Samuel Randall, Aiden Iacovelli, Alexander Iacovelli, Kassidy Elliott, Jordan Sayewich, Hailey Marie Taylor, Evan Taylor, Noah Taylor, and great-great-grandson Jayden Taylor.
Living most of her life in Hopedale, she enjoyed spending summers on Cape Cod in Wellfleet. Later in life, she became a snowbird, spending the summer in Hopedale and the winter in Florida, first in Homestead, where she taught line dancing to friends, and then in Holiday, where four siblings and other family members also spent the winter, or lived year-round.
She enjoyed participating at the Milford Senior Center, spending time at the beach, playing bingo and various card games, traveling, cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was very talented at needlework, creating handcrafted gifts for family and friends. And she loved watching the birds come to the feeders outside her kitchen window.
Service to be held at Chesmore Funeral Home in Holliston on Saturday, June 7th at 11:00, followed by burial at Lake Grove Cemetery in Holliston.
