What is success? To laugh often and much, To win the respect of intelligent people, And the affection of children. To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate the beauty around us everyday ; to find the best in others, to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition. To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. Ralph Waldo Emerson

I will never forget the countless childhood and adolescent memories we had together as a family, especially your favorite traditions of dressing up on Halloween and eating Chinese food on Christmas Eve. I will forever cherish our Friday lunch visits and our 1:1 talks we had together at Golden Pond. The emotional bond we formed during your later years while living in MA is irreplaceable and indescribable. You endlessly supported and loved your family and raised an incredible son who I am blessed to call my father. You are the strongest person I know and have been through so much in 90 years on this earth. I couldn’t believe the amount of people who stopped in to give their condolences to you during your last days. You are loved by so many and demonstrate the best man, husband, father, and grandfather there ever was. Thank you for loving me with your entire heart. My heart hurts that you are gone but I promise to continue to make you proud. I promise to love everyone just as you did and to put a smile on everyone's face just like you always managed to do. Your beautiful soul will live on forever. Love you with my whole heart and soul. RIP Grandpa.

Dear John and family, My mom shared the news of your dear dad’s passing. I have such fond memories of his smile and warmth. I think I held on to an Irish Spring beach towel until it was tattered as he gave it to me as a kid since we shared the same birthday It was always so nice to see him and visit with him. My mom has been reminiscing about the many wonderful times with your parents We send our condolences to you and your beautiful family Eleanor Nygren and Nancy (Nygren) Berlandy
