Peter W. Vernon, 68, of Holliston, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Ruth (Bradford) and Howard P. Vernon.
Peter worked as an environmental engineer, working in many different areas throughout the country on pollution remediation. Outside of his professional life, Peter was an ardent mountain climber and lover of the outdoors. Among his many achievements, he successfully summited the Matterhorn in the Alps. He was particularly fond of New Hampshire’s White Mountains, where he completed numerous climbs of 4,000-foot peaks and braved the harsh winter conditions to climb Mount Washington. Peter also found joy in canoeing and all forms of outdoor sports. He spent two years living in Jackson Hole, Wyoming cross country skiing. He also enjoyed participating in the Holliston parades with his Dodge Power Wagon.
Peter is survived by two children, Amy Hewson and her husband, Brian of Holden and Adam Vernon of Morrisville, VT; his brother, Jay Vernon of Holliston, and his former wife, Glenda Fearnside of Reading. He also leaves his grandson, Miller.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 2nd from 10am-12pm at Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home at 12pm. Interment will be held privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Appalachian Mountain Club, https://www.outdoors.org/
