To the family of Mrs. Nordstrom, Please know how sorry I am to hear of your loss, Mrs. Nordstrom was a wonderful person, a family friend, and one of the reasons I became a teacher. Mr. Nordstrom built my mom's walnut kitchen, which everyone loved. Also, many people from town knew and respected her extended family, an all around great group of people. The lovely tribute to her kind acts throughout her lifetime, particularly cultivating a love of reading among her students is spot on and proves how lucky we were to have so many wonderful and dedicated teachers in our lives. Mrs. Nordstrom made a difference in my life, she read Charlotte's Web to us in the early 1970s. Fast forward a few decades, I had a chance to read it to my students. I called my best friend the night before and we talked about Mrs. Nordstrom, the story, and the moment we saw the illustration of Fern cradling Wilbur and feeding him a bottle. We agreed, it was a heart stopping moment, and how we had all we could do to stay seated, and not lunge for the book. The next day, I began reading the story to my young class, needless to say, the moment came to turn the page and reveal the picture. Within seconds the classroom erupted like the the floor of the NYSE, when I finally got my little book back it was torn, but we all had a good laugh, and talked about an incredible teacher named Mrs. Nordstrom that day.
