Hopkinton, MA – Doris M. (Riedle) Melvin, 78, died Jan. 8, 2003 at the MetroWest
Medical Center in Framingham.
She was the wife of the late Donald T. Melvin who died in 1957.
Born in Milford and a lifelong resident of Hopkinton, she was the daughter of the late
Oscar and Jane (Robson) Riedle.
Mrs. Melvin had been a legal secretary for Dennison Manufacturing in Framingham for 8
years and then worked for 25 years as a secretary in Elmwood School in Hopkinton. She
was very active in the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, a member of the Ladies
Union of the Baptist Church of Milford and until recently had worked and volunteered for
the Town of Hopkinton in various offices under the Senior Work Program. She dearly
loved her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons; David T. Melvin and his wife Victoria of Belleville, IL and
Douglas A. Melvin and his wife Karen of Blackstone, MA, daughter; Donna J. Wendel
and her husband Thomas of Nashua, NH, brother; John I. Riedle of Mendon, MA, sisters;
Florence Riedle and Sadie Benson both of Hopkinton, 10 grandchildren and 1 great
grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan 11 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational
Church in Hopkinton. Burial in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Hopkinton will be private.
Calling hours at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 57 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton will be
Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations in Mrs. Melvin’s memory may be made to the Mission Fund,
First Congregational Church, 146 E. Main St., Hopkinton, MA 01748
