Martin David Salant (“Marty”) passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025. Marty was born on February 12, 1947, in Boston, the son of Samuel M. and Ann P. Salant. He supported himself at an early age, working various jobs until his mid-20’s. Marty had a Jewish upbringing, and when a spiritual journey led him to travel to South and Central America, he became a Christian missionary. Returning to Boston in the late 70’s, he made many friends while roller-skating along the Charles River bike path and sailing with the Community Boating Club. On one momentous day in 1980, he met Jane roller-skating in front of the Hatch Shell, and two and a half months later, they tied the knot. Marty and Jane were married for almost 45 years and had four beautiful children.Marty was a devoted family man, playing and watching sports with his children, equally sharing in raising his family. He worked at Harvard University as a Financial Associate for more than 25 years. Marty was friendly and had an infectious smile and laugh. He loved meeting people and speaking Spanish. He had a sweet tooth and enjoyed the baked goods that Jane happily supplied him with. Marty enjoyed all sports and was an enthusiastic fan of Boston’s sports teams. In his later years, he enjoyed playing with his four grand-dogs.In addition to his parents, Marty is predeceased by his sister, Gloria Phillips, and his brother, Edward. He is survived by his wife Jane and his four children: Pamela and her partner Patrick Vedder of Canada Lake, NY; Peter and his partner Michael Ahern of Riverside, RI; Rebecca Menard and her husband Jeremy of Monson, MA; and Andrew and his partner Regan Flynn of Arlington, MA. He is also survived by a large, loving family: nieces Stephanie and Amy Salant, nephews Henry Perkins and David Pacheco, many additional nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, loving cousins, especially Cousin Gary, who was like a brother to him, and dear in-laws, including sister-in-law Nancy Sheffer, who was a rock of support during later years. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the medical staff at Boston Medical Center, Brighton, for their compassionate and excellent care during Marty’s last days.A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:30 AM at the First Congregational Church, 725 Washington Street, Holliston.
