October 11, 1935 - April 26, 2025 Celebration of Life: Sunday, May 18th 2-5 p.m. at Dover American Legion |
Peter Windsor BertschmannOctober 11, 1935 – April 26, 2025Peter passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025 after 89 years of life filled with laughter, love and family. He is predeceased by Mary, his loving wife of 64 years. Peter and Mary spent most of their adult lives in the town of Sherborn, MA, where they enjoyed 50 fun-filled years, and raised their family of three boys, Christopher, Gregory, and Timothy. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Peter went on to the Naval Officers Candidate School in Newport, RI. Following his service as a Lieutenant in the Navy, he began his lifelong career at New England Telephone Company. At the phone company, Peter had a tremendously rewarding career making countless friends, and rising to the rank of Senior Vice-President prior to his retirement in 1992. In addition to his responsibilities at the phone company, Peter served for many years on the Board of Directors at Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Bay State Games. He also served in countless ways to support the local sports organizations within his Dover-Sherborn community.Peter’s first love was always family. He was never far from Mary’s side, and he never missed his boys’ ball games. His hours spent in hockey rinks, on basketball courts, and at baseball fields watching his sons play were endless, and he loved every minute of it. That love and passion for family and sports continued with his 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Being a part of their lives, watching them grow, and being their “Uppa” has been his life and passion for the past35 years. He cherished every minute of it.Summers at the Cape, vacations in the Bahamas, dinners out with Mary, following the Red Sox and Bruins with his boys, tractor rides for his grandchildren…these simple pleasures were all he needed. It is a lesson to be learned for all of us, and he did it all with a sense of humor that could often leave our family howling and a humility that left us always thankful for having him in our lives. As a dad, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a mentor, and a friend, he will be forever missed. At five o’clock he will be back with Mary, a vodka and tonic for him, a rum and coke for mom, and two scratch tickets on the coffee table.Peter is survived by his three sons Christopher and his wife Jean, Gregory and his wife Kathie, Timothy and his wife Ashley, grandchildren Sam, Maddie, Sarah, Molly, Kelly, Kevin, Kristan, Holly, Lilly and Jack. And great grandchildren, Willie, Dawson and Grace.A Celebration of Life for both Pete and Mary will be held on Sunday, May18th from 2-5 p.m at the Dover, American Legion, 32 Dedham St, Dover, MA.
