Martha H. Nickerson

Martha H. Nickerson, 78, of Holliston, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Jean (Harper) Holmes of Falmouth and the late Phillip Holmes. Martha was the devoted wife of Gail Donaldson for 20 years, having shared a loving partnership since 1980. 

A dedicated member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Sherborn, Martha embodied the values of community and compassion. She was a passionate watercolor painter and found joy in expressing her creativity and sharing her art with others. Her love for animals and wildlife was evident in her nurturing spirit, and she found pleasure in dirt gardening. Martha was also a founding member of the “Friday Night Group,” where friends gathered to share food, laughter, and stories.

In addition to her mother and wife, Martha is survived by her siblings, Nancy Sweeney of Norton, Susan deJong of Fall River, MA, Judy Abbruzzi and her husband, Larry, of North Dighton, MA, and James Holmes of Falmouth. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 11 Main St. in Sherborn at 2 pm on Saturday, November 23rd. This service will be live-streamed at UUAC.org. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy, https://preserve.nature.org/
