Edward L. Perry, Jr., 92, of Sherborn, passed away on January 1 after a brief illness. Ed was born on October 23, 1931 to parents Edward and Rachel (MacNaughton) Perry in Bangor, Maine. After graduating from John Bapst High School, he attended the University of Maine, where he ran a 4:35 mile on the Track and Field team and graduated with a Physics degree.Ed was drafted into the Army during the Korean War, serving domestically for two years before going to work as an engineer at Sylvania, where he stayed for his entire 40 year career.As a bachelor, he earned his pilot’s license, dabbled in photography, and drove a Chevy Corvair convertible. He met his wife, Jane, on a ski trip in Stowe, Vermont, and they were married six months later, eventually settling in Sherborn, where they raised their two children.Ed was an avid skier, a do-it-your-selfer, and a loyal, life-long fan of Boston sports teams. In his retirement, Ed gave his time generously to the community, volunteering for the Sherborn Library’s Board of Trustees and the Sherborn Conservation Commission.Ed was considerate to a fault, helped anyone in need, and shared his quick wit with many people. He was an eternal optimist and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Jane E. Perry of Sherborn, his daughter, Christine Perry Smith and her husband Michael Smith of Marlborough, his son David Perry and wife Kin Foong of Kensington, CA, and his grandchildren, Matthew Smith and Alice and Ben Perry.Private arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home. |
