David Bates

Holliston-

David Bates, 82, of Holliston, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Heston and Mary (Haggerty) Bates. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Joyce (O’Donnell) Bates.

David served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Bennington from 1950-1954. He received his Associate in Engineering Degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1957 and was retired from Hyperion Industries of Watertown, MA. He enjoyed Target Shooting and was an expert Marksman.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Venezia and her husband Bob and Ellin Austin and her husband Joe, all of Holliston. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Mike and Kate Austin, Amanda, Bryan and Nicole Venezia all of Holliston and Bob and Shanna Venezia of Stuart, FL. He was looking forward to the birth of his first great-grandchild in May.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 31st at 10:00a.m. at Lake Grove Cemetery in Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Shelter of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston.
