HOLLISTON – Gregory LaRosa, 91, of Holliston, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Ellen M. (Callahan) LaRosa of Holliston for 60 years.
The son of the late Gregory and Josephine Catherine (Randcourt) LaRosa, both of Sicily, Italy, who immigrated to the United States as children, he was a Holliston resident for 82 years and a member of St. Mary Church.
A graduate of Holliston High School, Class of 1932, where he was a manager of the baseball team, Mr. LaRosa earned the rating of the Boy Scouts’ Eagle Scout. He was retired from Draper Corp. in Hopedale.
A veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, he served eight years in Hawaii, England and Scotland.
He was one of the founders of VFW Post 8507 of Holliston and an active member, having served as past Post Commander, and was chaplain for many years.
He taught chair-caning classes for more than 30 years at adult education classes, at Medway High School, Holliston High School, Dover-Sherborn Regional High School and Algonquin Regional High School, making many friends over the years. He was a Boy Scout scoutmaster.
He leaves his children, Gregory C. LaRosa and his wife, Helen, of Sullivan, Maine, Karen LaRosa of South Casco, Maine, Margaret LaRosa of Stockton Springs, Maine, Diane Miller and her husband, Herb, of Marietta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Jeffrey LaRosa and his wife, Kelly, of Barre, Jennifer LaRosa-Hicks and her husband of Grafton, Christina Rivkin and Gregory J. LaRosa, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., Robert and Emily LaRosa of Stockton Springs, Mary Miller of Lyndhurst, N.J., and Capt. Katherine M. Cook, U.S. Army, now serving in Iraq; his siblings, Rita Niro and Josephine Cheschi, both of Milford, and Samuel LaRosa of Framingham; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joseph, Francis and Tony LaRosa and Louise Waldrop.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary Church.
Burial with military honors will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visiting hours are Thursday, Dec. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., and Friday, Dec. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St., Holliston.
