Peter Windsor BertschmannOctober 11, 1935 – April 26, 2025
Peter passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025 after 89 years of life filled with laughter, loveand family. He is predeceased by Mary, his loving wife of 64 years. Peter and Mary spent mostof their adult lives in the town of Sherborn, MA, where they enjoyed 50 fun-filled years, andraised their family of three boys, Christopher, Gregory, and Timothy.
After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Peter went on to the Naval OfficersCandidate School in Newport, RI. Following his service as a Lieutenant in the Navy, he beganhis lifelong career at New England Telephone Company. At the phone company, Peter had atremendously rewarding career making countless friends, and rising to the rank of Senior Vice-President prior to his retirement in 1992. In addition to his responsibilities at the phonecompany, Peter served for many years on the Board of Directors at Blue Cross Blue Shield andthe Bay State Games. He also served in countless ways to support the local sports organizationswithin his Dover-Sherborn community.
Peter’s first love was always family. He was never far from Mary’s side, and he never missed hisboys’ ball games. His hours spent in hockey rinks, on basketball courts, and at baseball fieldswatching his sons play were endless, and he loved every minute of it. That love and passion forfamily and sports continued with his 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Being a part oftheir lives, watching them grow, and being their “Uppa” has been his life and passion for the past35 years. He cherished every minute of it.
Summers at the Cape, vacations in the Bahamas, dinners out with Mary, following the Red Soxand Bruins with his boys, tractor rides for his grandchildren…these simple pleasures were all heneeded. It is a lesson to be learned for all of us, and he did it all with a sense of humor thatcould often leave our family howling and a humility that left us always thankful for having himin our lives. As a dad, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a mentor, and a friend, he will beforever missed. At five o’clock he will be back with Mary, a vodka and tonic for him, a rum andcoke for mom, and two scratch tickets on the coffee table.
