Eight bells....end of watch

Kathy I am so sorry to hear of Wally's passing. I will always remember his smile and big heart. I loved talking to him at the barn and horse shows. May you and your family find comfort in your memories. Much Love, Lynn Presswood

It was my great fortune to have been blessed by my friendship with Wally Haas: Words will never fully capture the magnitude of his place in so many lives. Wally was a man of great integrity, dignity, generosity, kindness, gratitude and openness to all he met. He lived his life to the full and he knew how to love with all his heart: deep within that great heart was his wife Marian, his five children, his 11 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, his extended family and all the people young and old along with the horses and dogs who shared his attention. I knew him during the last ten years of his life—where he was the “ambassador of welcome” at Rising Star Equestrian Center—greeting everyone with a kind word and an interest in whatever they had to say—from the youngest to the oldest and by extension to every horse and dog that greeted him, too! Wally had no pretensions and was always grateful for being part of all the activity around him. He enjoyed a very big fan club, with his devoted dog Duke forever by his side. Wally and I shared many things—from living along the Connecticut River, to sailing adventures, love of horses, the same birthdate as my two grandsons, and most of all our shared Catholic faith. I have no doubt that his Hail Mary prayers are answered in heaven, and that one day we will see him again.

My heartfelt condolences to the Haas family. Although I only knew of him through my friendship with Bob Haas, I got the impression that Mr. Haas cast a long shadow and was certainly the object of much love, respect and admiration. May he be well rewarded by the Lord for his faithful service and for a life well-lived. May he rest in peace.
