Holliston-

Walter Anthony Mark, 91, of Holliston, passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016. Born in West Roxbury, he was the son of the late Mary (Jablonska) and William Mark. He was the husband of 63 years to Sophie A. (Kurzontkowski) Mark of Holliston.

At 17, Walter started as an apprentice with the New Haven Railroad. After a 49 year career, he retired as the Chief Mechanical Officer for the MBTA Commuter Rail. He was a member of the Southern New England Railroad Club as well as a member of Holliston Fire Department Engine 1 for 30 years. He was an usher for St. Mary’s Church for 25 years and was an avid gardener and craftsman.

Besides his wife, Walter is survived by four sons, Walter J. Mark and his wife Kristin of Franklin, John R. Mark and his wife Deborah of Holliston, Donald W. Mark and his wife Wendy of Franklin, and Joseph T. Mark and his wife Paula of Holliston. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Christopher, Scott, Bryan, Rebecca, Jacklyn, Joseph, Jessica and Naomi, as well as 5 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his siblings, Stanley Mark and Phyllis Wysocki.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd from 4-7p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 23rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of Holliston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
