Virginia “Ginny” Callander, 64, of Hopkinton, passed away Monday, September 9th, at her home surrounded by family. Born in Freeport, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Byrns) and Cedric Callander.

Ginny was a long time employee and Corporate Event Manager at the MathWorks. She grew up in Newton, MA and attended the University of Massachusetts. Ginny loved to decorate her home, write, travel, and spend time with her family and in particular, her granddaughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen McNemar and her husband Tommy of Milford, CT. She also leaves behind a granddaughter, Sarah McNemar (her Love Bug); 3 sisters, Marianne Byrne, Susan Lifton, Bonnie DeVinney; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Michael Callander.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 14th, from 1 – 4 pm, at the Hopkinton Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Earth Limited, the conservation and education non-profit organization at Southwick Zoo (2 Southwick Street, Mendon, MA 01756). The Southwick Zoo was a special place for Ginny. She spent many Mother’s days and other special days there each year with her daughter and granddaughter. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton.
