Thomas A. Lyons, Jr., 87, of Bourne, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011. Born in Weymouth he was the son of the late Thomas A. Lyons Sr. and Alice C. Lyons of Roslindale. He was the husband of Marjorie J. (Reichenberg) Lyons of Bourne.

Thomas served in WWII as corporal in the Army and attended Bryant & Stratton in Boston and was a businessman and owner of John J. Cahill Displays in Boston for 44 years. In 1958 he moved his family to Holliston where they resided for 24 years before moving to Bourne in 1982. While in Holliston, he was a longtime member and Chair of the School Committee, School Building Committee, Massachusetts Association of School Committees, Treasurer of the Lions Club, member of the VFW, 50-year member of the American Legion and member of the Friendly Aid and Historical Society. He was an avid golfer and member of Pocasset Golf Club, Atlantis Country Club in Florida, enjoyed gardening at their homes on the canal and Linda Vista and was a Boston sports fan and an avid reader.

Besides his wife of 64 years, he is survived by five children, Thomas L. Lyons of Natick, Donna Maiocca of Chatham, Dennis Lyons of Lakeville, Beth Wills of Holliston and Susan Lewis of Holliston, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, sister Bette Faherty of Roslindale and the late Ronnie Williamson of Fairport, NY.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7, 2011 from 4-7pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. A funeral mass will take place on Monday, August 8, 2011 at 10:30a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of Holliston. Burial will follow at Lake Grove Cemetery in Holliston. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the Thomas A. Lyons Scholarship Fund in care of Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Holliston, P.O. Box 6786, Holliston, MA 01746
