Scott Philip Edwards passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 25, 2024 following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband to Susan (Van Splinter) Edwards, and devoted father to his children Matthew, Nicholas, Allison, and his future daughter-in-law Kelsey Flanagan (Nicholas).  

Scott also leaves behind his brother Bruce Edwards and his wife Donna Duggan Edwards, his father-in-law Richard Van Splinter, his sister-in-law Beth Stebbins and her husband Doug Stebbins, his nephews and niece Patrick Edwards, Willem Edwards, Carley Stebbins, Jack Stebbins and Jason Stebbins, and many aunts, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Janice and Philip, and by his mother-in-law Shirleyann Van Splinter.  

Scott was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on November 28, 1961, to his parents Janice L. (Jernberg) Edwards and Philip A. Edwards. He was raised in Westborough, Massachusetts where he was a graduate of Westborough High School. Scott played a number of sports in Westborough and found the most joy spending endless hours water skiing at his Uncle Bill and Aunt Pam’s home on Lake Singletary in Sutton.  Scott graduated from Keene State College with a degree in journalism. It was in college where he met Susan and a much-loved group of friends that remain a tight unit over forty years later. A gifted writer, Scott spent his career working in higher education and health care communications. He was a senior science writer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.  

Scott was a resident of Holliston, Massachusetts for over 25 years, where he and Susan raised their family. He was passionate about all things sports, most notably the Boston teams, the Oakland Raiders, UConn football and basketball, and every youth, high school and college team his children played on. He was their strongest supporter and fan, and never missed a single game. Scott was a youth coach for his children’s football, basketball, baseball, and softball teams and was a member of the board of the Holliston Pop Warner football program.  Scott loved music, attending concerts, reading, golf, and travel. From Cape Cod to Maine to New Hampshire, he enjoyed spending time on the coast and lakes of New England. Scott treasured his experiences traveling with family to over 15 countries around the world.  

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 725 Washington Street, in Holliston, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may wish to donate to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s The Jimmy Fund, or to the American Lung Association in memory of Scott. Scott’s family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the hero nurses and doctors at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital Shapiro 6 West for giving him a fighting chance and incredible compassionate care.
