Sarah Elizabeth (Hodges) Cloutier of Seekonk, MA went home to her Lord and family on December 3, 2024 at the age of 101. She is predeceased by her husband Robert George Cloutier (1999), her son Daniel Hodges Cloutier (2005) her brother Daniel Hodges (2008) and most recently her son Robert Armand Cloutier (2021).
Sarah was born in Sapulpa, OK on September 30, 1923 to Wilson and Willa Belle Hodges. Two years later, she was blessed with a brother, Daniel Hodges whom she loved dearly. Sarah graduated high school and also earned a junior college degree. She lived on a large farm and loved the southern Oklahoma life. That was until she met her future husband, Robert George Cloutier (Bob), of Attleboro, MA. Bob was a medic during World War II and received his training assignment in Oklahoma. In true wartime fashion, the two met, fell in love and were engaged after six weeks. Sarah and Bob corresponded by letter for over three years while he was abroad. Once Bob returned from the war, Sarah would make the long trek to Massachusetts by herself, leaving her beloved hometown behind. Sarah and Bob married quickly after his return. She was quite homesick but made a point to continue and share her southern traditions and influences.
Sarah and Bob settled in Seekonk, MA and had two children; Robert Cloutier and Daniel Cloutier. She found her forever church Darlington Congregational in Pawtucket, RI. There Sarah was a very active deacon of the church and taught Sunday school for many decades. Members of Darlington became an extension of her beloved family.
For those who know Sarah, it is no surprise that she lived to be 101 years old. She was a vibrant, energetic woman of faith who lived independently into her mid 90s. A proper lady through and through, Sarah was known for her love of flowers, gardening and pie making, skills she readily shared with others. She loved singing in her church choir and teaching children stories from her favorite book, the Bible.
Sarah poured her heart into her family which was her greatest treasure. Her son Robert married Linda (Ireland) Cloutier and had three children, Daniel Cloutier (wife Kalina), Rebekah Corey (husband David) and Lindsay Bohanske (husband Michael). Her son Daniel married Dana (Chiarini) Cloutier and had two sons Matthew Cloutier (wife Kayleigh) and Mark Cloutier (wife Kara). She loved her grandchildren and their spouses and her grandchildren loved her right back. Sarah was also blessed with eight great grandchildren who lovingly refer to her as Gigi; Jonathan, Lane, Luke, Genevieve, Eden, Sydney, Mason and Ryleigh. Sarah remained close with her brother Daniel Hodges, his wife Iwilla as well as her nephews James and John Hodges.
Sarah’s life was a strong testament to her faith in Jesus. She generously shared her love and faith with her family and friends and sought to live her very full life as an example of God’s love. She will be greatly missed, but she has earned her eternal life in heaven and is joyfully reuniting with her beloved family. “Well done good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your lord” Matthew 25:23.
