Rose Marie Shaw 84, of Framingham, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023. She was born in Martinez, California to Annita (Cinquini) and Russell Hill. Rose spent her school years in Richmond, California, later living in Reno NV, Southern California, Westchester IL near Chicago and finally settling in Framingham, MA, where she was a 41-year resident.

Rose, an honor student and natural leader at a young age, attended the University of California Berkeley in the 1950s at a time few young women attended the college. While she was a student, Rose worked for the Richmond recreation department as a Playground Director. She met her future husband Ned Shaw during her Sophomore year of school. Rose and Ned were married for 63 years.

After Rose and Ned were married, Rose worked for Bell Telephone and a collections agency. Rose and Ned lived in Woodland CA close to her grandparent’s orchard in Winters, CA.

Rose stopped working to raise her 2 children in a healthy and happy home. Vivacious and industrious, she volunteered in school and civic activities including BlueBird Leader, Room Mother, Picture Lady, Band Mother, the Westchester Art League, and the Junior Women’s Club of Westchester, IL becoming President.

Having a lifelong appreciation of fine art and being a gifted artist and artisan, Rose made everything she touched beautiful whether it was her needlework, her oil painting, chair cushions she reupholstered, a cedar chest she stenciled, flowers she planted in her garden or Christmas sugar cookies she decorated.

After raising her children, Rose went back to work. She worked at Wickes Furniture and Neiman Marcus in the Chicago area. After moving to Massachusetts, she worked for Jordan Marsh and then Macy’s in Furniture Sales. She was frequently recognized as one of the top salespeople in her department.

She lived in many places and loved travel especially if it involved genealogical research and history. She visited Italy, England and many parts of the United States.

Besides her husband, Rose is survived by her daughter Nancy of Framingham, her son Robert and daughter-in-law Lisa of Charlotte, NC, her sister Doris Morris of Richmond, CA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Florence Sjostrand of Hallock, MN; her brother Russell Hill of Richmond, CA; and her brother William G. Hill.

A graveside service will be held at Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rose’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Framingham Garden in the Woods.

The family thanks everyone who has shared kind words about Rose during this difficult time.

Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston.
