Robert Gerard Murphy, 72, of Holliston, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 12, 2018. Born in Boston, MA, he was the son of the late Robert G Murphy and the late Claire (Ball) Murphy. He was the devoted husband of 51 years to Elizabeth (Brown) Murphy.
Bob attended Westwood High School (class of 1963) and went on to graduate from Boston College in 1967. He worked in the insurance industry for 43 years and retired from the Vermont Mutual Insurance Co, where he worked for 27 years. Bob was an avid Boston sports fan, especially the Patriots and Red Sox. He enjoyed his time with family and friends, and loved spending the winter months in Siesta Key, FL. Bob was passionate about watching his kids and grandkids participate in sports and activities. He will be remembered for his love of family, strong patriotism, sense of humor, ability to tell a good story, and being the life of the party. Bob was a student of history, an avid reader, and a keno aficionado.
Besides his wife Betty, he is survived by his six children, Chris Murphy and his wife Dana of Hopedale, Matt Murphy and his wife Jessica of Mount Pleasant, SC, Carole (Murphy) Kallas and her husband Matt of North Kingstown, RI, Kevin Murphy and his wife Tracy of Hopkinton, MA, Meghann (Murphy) Remick and her husband Frank of Lexington, and Nancy (Murphy) Carroll and her husband Eric of Norton; as well as 17 grandchildren, Ryan, Brennan, and Michael Murphy, Connor, Allie, Jack, and Kady Murphy, Shane and Lily Kallas, Josh, Emma and Lulu Murphy, Frankie and Ellie Remick, and Ava, Timmy, and Thomas Carroll. He is also survived by his sisters Claire Murphy, Ann Nichols and her husband Chris, Mary Lou Sheehan and her husband Dan, Betty Singleton and her husband Paul, sister-in-law Linda Murphy, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his brother, Paul Murphy.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17th at St. Mary’s Parish, 8 Church St, Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Mary’s Parish of Holliston or Saint Jude Children’s Hospital, st.jude.org, would be appreciated.
