Richard L. O’Shea, resident of Holliston since 1965, died February 13 of rapidly progressive dementia. Richard was born April 28, 1939, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to Irene (Hughes) and Martin E. O’Shea. He was married to Marcia (Putnam) O’Shea for 61 years. He is survived by his wife and their sons, Robert and his wife, Christine of Harvard, MA, and Kenneth and his wife, Linda of Melrose, MA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren — Colleen, Monika, Kelly, Tara, and Connor. He also leaves his brother Martin W. O’Shea, and his wife Susan, and his sister Maureen and her husband Robert Jacques, all residents of Manchaug, MA. In addition, he leaves several nieces and nephews.

Richard graduated from Sutton High School in 1957 and from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in 1961 with a B.S. in Physics. At WPI he was a member of ATO and Tau Beta Pi. He then earned a Masters degree in Physics and Applied Engineering from Harvard University. After serving in the U.S. Army for two years, Richard began his 38-year career with Raytheon where he did pioneering work in microwave antenna design. Richard and his family spent two and a half years at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands on assignment from Raytheon during the 1970s. While there, he became proficient in scuba diving. Other hobbies included snorkeling, skiing, doing sudoku puzzles, and feeding the birds.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. A memorial service will follow the visitation in the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Following the memorial service, guests are invited to join the family at Anthony’s on the Green at Pinecrest Golf Club. Interment will be held privately on Sunday, February 26.
