Paul, known affectionately as “Tim” by his family and oldest friends, passed on August 12th after battling Multiple Sclerosis for many years. Son of the late Paul Burke of Holliston and Falmouth, MA, and the late Anne (Kennedy) Burke of Holliston and Dudley, MA. Father of Tandi Burke and Tracy Byrd. The oldest brother of Thomas Burke and his wife, Randi, and Patrick Burke and his wife Lynn. Proud Uncle of Lindsey, Hali, Montana, Brit, and Megan.

Paul certainly lived a full, vibrant, and accomplished life. He believed the most defining element of his life was leaving home at age 16 and joining a traveling circus and carnival. A decorated member of the United States Air Force (USAF), SSgt. Paul T. Burke was honored for his Meritorious Service and won the Sikorsky Helicopter Rescue Award for his role in a life-saving mission. While in the Air Force, Paul devised and implemented the first weight training program for use by the USAF (Europe).

Paul devoted much of his life to the sports of arm wrestling and body-building and competed often, winning many titles, including Mr. Empire State, Mr. Titan (England), and runner-up, Junior Mr. Universe. He shared his passion for health and fitness and worked tirelessly helping others to be their best selves, through fitness, nutrition, and the power of positive thinking.

After receiving his Master’s Degree in Integrated Studies from Cambridge College in Cambridge, MA, Paul authored “Burke’s Law; a New Fitness Paradigm for the Mature Male” and wrote articles in a multitude of bodybuilding and fitness magazines. An owner of several successful gyms and personal training businesses, Paul also trained Bill Koch and became the fitness equipment manager for Koch’s winning America’s Cup Team and sailed with the team as well. He also trained celebrities all over the world and in his early years, was hired as bodyguard to the incomparable, Yul Brenner.

Paul was also a member of SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and performed in several commercials, including one where he starred as Hercules in a Wendy’s commercial. He treasured his time as an actor and was particularly proud of his small part in the film, Mystic Pizza, starring Julia Roberts. His artistic talent did not stop at acting. A true entertainer, Paul also enjoyed a career in music, as lead singer and songwriter in the Paul Burke Band.

Paul had a positive outlook on life, despite his diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. He was determined to reach beyond his physical limits and maximize his positive impact on the world. Had he not received that diagnosis, he may never have shared his knowledge and expertise, writing his book, and guiding others to become their best selves. Decorated veteran, arm wrestler, bodybuilder, author, musician, business owner, personal trainer, bodyguard, actor. Son, father, brother, uncle. Brilliant mind, relentless spirit, boundless soul. He led a life that cannot be replicated.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the American Legion Gaudette-Kirk Post 138 of Spencer, MA, or the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Dav.org . A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home.
