HOLLISTON – Paul Joseph White, 61, passed away peacefully at his home in Holliston on Saturday, November 5, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. During his last eleven weeks at home Paul was surrounded by numerous family members and friends.

Born at the Chelsea Naval Hospital on November 18, 1949, he was the son of the late Fred J. and Theresa M. (Piscatelli) White. He lived in Watertown before moving to Holliston in 1956. He was a 1967 graduate of Holliston High School and later earned his mechanical design degree from Worcester Industrial Technical Institute. Paul began his career working at Pegasus Inc., Pintek Company, and Bose Corporation. He founded Design Associates and Manufacturing Company in 1983, closing the company in 2011 due to his illness.

Paul was a motorcycle enthusiast, enjoyed deep sea fishing on “The Annie B” on Cape Cod, and was known to frequent a casino now and again. He cherished time spent with all of his family, especially spoiling his beloved granddaughters Taylor, Ashley, Madison, Skye, and Hailey. He loved vacationing in Ossipee, NH, York Beach, ME, and most recently attained his dream of owning a cottage by the water in Westford, MA.

A generous supporter of The American Cancer Society, he was an inspiring presence at the local Relay For Life events. During his 8 year battle with his disease, he relied heavily on the strength of his family as well as the care he received from his doctors. The last few years Paul was comforted by The Palliative Care Services offered at Massachusetts General Hospital and headed by Dr. Vicki Jackson. Paul’s story was featured in a July 24, 2011 Boston Globe Magazine article about the wonderful work done by MGH’s Palliative Care Department. In addition to his wife, Elaine F. (Elliott), he is survived by his daughter Laurie and her husband John Alexander of Holliston, daughter Wendy and her husband Mark Willis of Mendon, son David and his wife Dani (Bosworth) White of Hopkinton, and his precious grandchildren Taylor and Ashley Alexander, Madison and Skye White, and Hailey Willis. He is also survived by brothers Ronald and his wife Mary of Holliston, Michael of Upton and a sister Karen (White) LaPan of Medway, nephews and nieces James, Michelle, and Kathleen White, Brian and Kevin LaPan, and Emily White. Paul will also be missed by many cousins and dear friends across Massachusetts and the country.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com at 854 Washington St, Holliston. A funeral Mass will held be at St. Mary’s Church in Holliston on Friday, November 11 at 10:30 am.
