My deepest condolences to the family of Pat McDonald. As a member of St. Mary's parish I have enjoyed the voice that Pat shared with the rest of us every week and especially around the holidays. May God be with you as you walk through your very sad valley.

I briefly cared for Pat several months ago- it was a pleasure and a privilege for me, and I am so very sorry to hear of his passing. He truly left his mark on the world and on those who were lucky enough to know him. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

Kathy, Brian and Patrick, my deepest sympathy for your loss. Pat touched my life in so many ways, and I feel grateful to have worked with him. His contributions to Waters and to the scientific community were profound, and will long be remembered. I have an email box full of messages from Pat that are too valuable to delete. I found one that he sent me on July 2, 2014, after I congratulated him on celebrating his 40th anniversary at Waters. Here is some of what Pat said: "I always felt that I had a responsibility to use the talents God gave me, and the blessings that He bestowed on me by virtue of the guidance of my parents and my teachers, to make the world a better place, whether in small or large ways, and to reflect His light onto the lives of family and friends and the community at large. Jim Waters gave me an opportunity, and, I think, by my inventions and ideas, I have enabled his company to grow and hire wonderful colleagues who have joined me in my mission and who have become dear friends in the process! I guess I am viewed as old-fashioned by some. I am not driven by monetary rewards or career ambition. I believe by working hard, doing one's best, striving for excellence, having faith in the innate desire of everyone to do good and their ability to be creative, and applying good science to solve important problems, we can innovate in important ways and create products that fulfill our mission." May Pat's light continue to shine brightly in our lives!

Pat & Kathy the Big 50

Posted by Mike McDonald on August 11, 2017

Kathy, Brian and Patrick: We are so sorry for your loss. Pat was a very talented man and a true gentleman. The world is saddened by his loss but ever so grateful for the brilliant light he brought into the lives of his family, his many friends, his work and his music ministry. He was a kind and generous gentleman. I picture him as standing right next to Jesus as a cornerstone of St. Mary’s. He has enriched our lives. May the angels lead him into Paradise. May Blessed Mary and St. Joseph walk beside you, comfort you and uphold you.
