Maureen L. (Kane) Leighton, 64, of Holliston, died Sunday, October 19,
2008. Wife of Ira William Leighton, Jr. for 40 years. Daughter of the late
Leo F. and Margaret (Fillion) Kane, Maureen (Mausie, MO) was born and
raised in Brighton. Graduated St. Columbkille’s High School (1962) and
Boston State Teachers College(1966).
A Holliston resident since 1973, her affiliations include the League of
Women’s Voters, ERA, Building Rep MFT, member AFT Massachusetts,
Massachusetts Special Olympics, Holliston Youth Soccer Association,
Massachusetts Women’s Soccer League, National Association of Soccer
Referees, ?The Saturday Girls’ and was an avid photographer. A life long
teacher, Maureen was a member of the former Tri-Valley Collaborative in
Medfield for several years prior to the last 25 years teaching in Medway
where she is described as being “everywhere.”
In addition to her husband Ira, she is survived by her 2 sons, Ira William
Leighton III of Leominster and his recently deceased husband Bruce D.
Lawrence, Jason Leo Leighton and his wife Tereza, and her prized grandson,
Blake Anthony Leighton of Natick. She also leaves a brother, James J. Kane
and his wife Carol of Southboro, a sister, Kathleen O’Keeffe and her
husband Paul of Needham, and a sister-in-law Marilyn McMillian and her
husband Fred.
Visitation hours will be held on Thursday, October 23 from 4-8pm as well
as Friday, October 24, from 4-8p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of
Holliston, 854 Washington St. (Rt. 126) www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A
funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30a.m. at St. Mary’s
Church of Holliston. Burial will follow at Lake Grove Cemetery. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Heart
