Holliston

Mary Louise Hart Canavan 76 of Holliston died Monday night at U-Mass Medical Center in Worcester. Born on April 17, 1927 in Boston she was the oldest of eight children born to the late William Daniel Hart (A former district fire chief) and the late Winifred (Sudbey) Hart. Mary was also the wife of the late Thomas Richard Canavan, a Boston firefighter.

Prior to her marriage she worked as the administrative assistant to the director of the Boston Public Library. When her children were older, Mary worked the switchboard for the inaugural election campaign of the former Mayor Kevin H. White. She was also a former president of the Holliston Woman’s Club and member of the Holliston Historical Society.

Mary is survived by six children, 3 sons; T. Richard Canavan of Marlborough, William Hart Canavan and his wife Kathleen of Bellingham, David Gerard Canavan of Maine, 3 Daughters; Sheila Canavan and her husband Michael Chandler of Moab, UT and Westport Island, ME, Rosemary Orth of Novato, CA, and Mary Louise Canavan of Hyannis. She also leaves 8 Grandchildren: Matthew, Jeffrey, Stephanie, Richard, Patrick, Cory, Sarah, and Sean and four of her 7 Brothers and sisters; William, Robert, and Michael Hart and Anne Rhoades

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday April 17, 2004 at 11:00 am in Saint Mary’s Church of Holliston. Visitation will take place prior to the Mass from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St. (Rt 16) Holliston. Burial will follow in Lake Grove Cemetery.
