Marilyn “Merry” Reynolds Duffy Touborg, 77, of Sherborn, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 surrounded by her loving husband of 32 years, Dr. Jens Touborg, and her two sons, Matt Duffy of Melrose and Neal Duffy (wife Allison) of Swampscott. Merry also leaves behind four stepchildren, Meg Touborg (fiancé Arthur Hodges), Annie Ward (husband Bill), Sarah Horn (husband Greg), Peter Touborg (wife Deena); twelve grandchildren: Mimi, Nicholas, Peter, Will, Molly, Katie, William, Maggie, Shea, Charlie, Jack and Margaret; her sister Patty Johnson (husband Harry) and their children; half-sister Andrea Wilson; and step-siblings John Morgan, Christa Stanley and their families. Merry was predeceased by her step-sister, Sarah Morgan.
Born on April 14th, 1944 in Chelsea, MA, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Reynolds and Virginia (Bowman) Morgan. After a childhood living in many different places across the country, she received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Smith College in 1966. She, and her first husband Laurence Duffy eventually settled in Brookline, MA. Merry built an accomplished career in communications in the Executive Branch of Massachusetts state government, first at the State Ethics Commission, then for the Department of Public Utilities. She later worked for Harvard University as the Director of Communications for the Office of Human Resources until her retirement in 2004.
Merry met Jens Touborg in 1989, and after a whirlwind romance they married in 1990. An inseparable pair, they shared many adventures, travels, and an undying love for their family, friends, the Red Sox, their golden retrievers, and most of all, one another. Merry was a vibrant, beautiful, talented, intelligent woman, equally comfortable in the halls of government and academia, or on a stage singing and dancing. The joy she brought to life and those who knew her will be missed, never forgotten, and always celebrated.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 am, in person at the Unitarian Universalist Area Church, 11 Washington Street, Sherborn, MA or livestream at www.uuac.org. In lieu of flowers, donations in Merry’s memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Dana-farber.org
