Holliston-
Lawrence John Canavan, 77, of Holliston, passed away unexpectedly while visiting family in Charlotte, North Carolina on July 30, 2017. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Mary (Loftus) and Francis Canavan. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Kathleen (Coan) Canavan of Holliston.
During his college career, Larry played basketball for Philadelphia University. He enlisted in the Marines while in college and briefly served tours of duty during college summers. Larry had a full career as a stock broker. Larry played men’s basketball, was a member of the Men of 200 Club, and enjoyed being involved in his neighborhood, Donna Road Golf Tournaments, in which he helped facilitate. He took pleasure in visiting the beach and being near the ocean. Over the years, Larry enjoyed his countless trips to visit extended family in Philly. He always had a crazy joke to play on the people he liked. His biggest enjoyment was time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. He loved his immediate and extended family and kept close contact with neighbors and friends alike.
Besides his wife Kathleen, Larry is survived by his children, Michael Canavan and his wife Cindy of Reading, MA, Kevin Canavan of Towson, MD, Kelly Krauss and her husband Mark of Millis,MA, Katy Guimond and her husband Charlie of Hatfield, MA, and Kerri Jensen and her husband Kevin of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ryan, Jason and Colin Canavan, Brianne and Finnegan Canavan, Jennifer, Julia, Jessica, Matthew, and Timothy Krauss, and Karlie, Caden, Kerin Guimond, and Kassie, Kailynn, and Karoline Jensen. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his eldest son, Larry Canavan and his brothers, Jack and Reds Canavan.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6th from 3:00-6:00p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral mass will take place on Monday, August 7th at 11:00a.m. at St. Mary’s Church of Holliston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 8 Church St, Holliston, MA 01746.
