Kevin John Blaney, 63, of Vernon, CT, beloved husband of Karen Lee (Ellis) Blaney, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023, an hour after his beloved wife Karen. Kevin was born on May 13, 1959, in Boston, Massachusetts, one of five loving children of the late Bernard and Christina (MacDougall) Blaney.

Kevin was a graduate of Holliston High School, Class of 1977. He went on to attend Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island where he earned his Culinary Arts degree in 1979. Kevin met the love of his life Karen Lee Ellis while attending the University. He was employed for over 40 years as an Executive Chef, working for several restaurants, hotels, and school systems as part of Compass Group USA. He was an award-winning chef and had prepared food for many dignitaries and celebrities. 

Along with spending time with his family, Kevin enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Topstone Golf Men’s Club in South Windsor. He was an important organizer and supporter of the annual Foster-Waldron & Blaney Memorial Golf Tournament. Kevin was an overall sports enthusiast and animal lover, and he loved spending time caring for his home and yard. He was an active member of the Vernon American Legion Post 14, where he volunteered much of his time for community events and fundraisers. 

He is survived by his two children; Bill Blaney of East Hartford and Leah Blaney and her partner Chris of Vernon, his four siblings and their spouses; Michael and Sonja Blaney of Barre, MA, Patrick and Denyse Blaney of Franklin, MA, Daniel and Mary Blaney of Holliston, MA and Christine and Richard Dalton of Needham, MA. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and all their families, and his mother-in-law Jane Ellis of Athol, MA. In addition to his wife Karen and his parents, Kevin was predeceased by his beloved daughter Kathleen “Kate” Blaney and his father-in-law William Ellis. 

Calling hours will be at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road in Vernon on Sunday, March 5, 2023, from 2-5 pm with a service at 4:30. Private burial will be in Athol, Massachusetts, at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald MacDonald House or to the American Cancer Society.
