Kathryn Louise Hamilton, 77, of Hopkinton, passed away on June 12, 2023, after a brief illness. The daughter of George and Charlotte (Lane) Fargo, Kay was born March 13, 1946. She grew up in Hopkinton, along with her brothers George, Jr. (Joc) and James.
Kay attended Hopkinton High School and graduated in 1964, and then enrolled at Boston University, receiving her degree in Journalism in 1968. In 1968, Kay married Harry Hamilton, and they had one daughter, Susan. Kay worked for National Merchandising (NAMCO) and Guestmark International for many years, serving as a production coordinator and manager in the graphic arts department. Later in life, she worked part-time for Dick’s Sporting Goods.
Introverted and private, Kay preferred small gatherings to large ones and enjoyed quiet things like reading and spending time in her garden, where she was interested not only in the plants and flowers but also in the wildlife that shared the garden with her. She was keenly interested in genealogical research and discovered many interesting things about the Hamilton, Fargo, and Lane families. She was also a second-generation member of the Framingham Heart Study, the longest-running observational medical study in the United States.
Kay is predeceased by her husband, Harry (May 2023), and by her parents, George Fargo and Charlotte (Lane) Fargo. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Hamilton, and her husband, Jeffrey DePiero of Franklin, MA, and by her brothers George Fargo, Jr. (Joc) of Dallas, TX, and James Fargo and his wife, Linda, of Reading, MA. She also leaves several nieces and nephews: Brian Hamilton, Pam (Hamilton) O’Toole, Casey Fargo, Sam Fargo, Abby Fargo, and Ryan Fargo.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 27 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe Street. A memorial service will take place in the funeral home at 11:00 am, and burial will follow at Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Hopkinton. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Kay’s memory to the Framingham Heart Study (https://www.framinghamheartstudy.org – you will find a “give” link in the top menu bar).
