Kathleen Lucille Higgins, 89, of Holliston, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2006. Born in Elmsvale, Nova Scotia, she was the youngest of ten children of the late John and Bessie Reid. She was the wife of the late Reverend Forrest C. Higgins who died in December 2005.

She was the beloved mother of Sandra (William) Ghelli of Lancaster, NH; Forrest Jr. (Kathryn) of Elmsvale, Nova Scotia; Sally (Gerard) Bergeron of
Holliston, MA; and Susan (Theodore) Dushane of Ann Arbor, MI and
Boston, MA. Also surviving are her grandchildren Thomas, Timothy,
Kathleen, and Nathan Ghelli; Cleve, Elizabeth, and Frank Higgins;
Julie and Jill Bergeron; and Michael Dushane (Levi Hillger) and
Andrew (Gladys) Dushane. She is predecesed by all her siblings.

Mrs. Higgins attended Mt. Allison University and received her
R.N. from the Moncton Hospital Training School in New Brunswick,
Canada in 1938. She received specialized training in Obstetrical and
Gynecological Surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. She
worked at Framingham Union Hospital in the 1960s and was honored as
the oldest R.N. in attendance at the pinning ceremony of her
daughter, Sandra, when Sandra received her R.N. 60 years after her
mother, in 1998. Mrs. Higgins also worked for many years with her
husband at the Boston Seaman’s Friend Society in Boston.
All who knew her loved her gentleness and her sense of humor.
She was a peacemaker and a jokester until the end.

Funeral services and luncheon reception will be held in the
First Congregational Church of Holliston, MA at 10:00 a.m. on
Saturday, September 9. Memorial donations may be sent to Mary Anne
Morse Nursing Home, 45 Union St., Natick, MA 01760. Arrangements are
in the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home in Holliston.
