Marlboro-

Jonathan David Simmons, 61, of Marlboro, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Born in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Raymond and Diane Simmons. He was the husband of 18 years to Gina Abbascia of Ashland.

Jonathan was a big, lovable bear of a man who faced the world and its challenges fearlessly through his own inner strength and his faith in Christ. He loved deeply, and he loved well, his circle of family and friends but expressed his compassion to most everyone he met, never too busy to take a moment and give his time to someone else in need. Jonathan was many things: an Eagle Scout, an Air Force vet, a student at Berklee School of Music, a songwriter and vocalist who performed on various stages throughout New England and was heard on Boston rock radio with his band The SkyDogs, the business owner of a livery service, and a diehard Boston sports fan but, most of all, fiercely protective and supportive of his wife, his son, his family and close friends.

Besides his former wife, Jonathan is survived by a son, Brock Simmons of Ashland, MA; a sister, Lori Colton and her husband, Tom Colton of Woolwich, ME and Lori’s children, Lisa Colella and Ellen Promise and their husbands; a brother, Rob Simmons and his wife, Lisa Culbertson-Simmons of San Rafael, CA and their children, Lucas and Jacob Simmons; a nephew, Zachary Simmons of Fresno, CA. He also leaves his beloved dog Rocket, as well as many cousins and friends. He will be loved and greatly missed by all.

A celebration of Jonathan’s life will take place on Saturday, January 12th at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Community Church in Hopkinton, MA. Interment will be private. Flowers may be sent to Faith Community Church by Friday, January 11 or donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Research Institute or Faith Community Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com
