John Lawrence Berini, 92, of Holliston, passed away October 3, 2013 at home with his family members following a lingering illness.
John was born August 10, 1921 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Ambrose and Adele (Rolando) Berini. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alzada E. (Rogers) Berini; his children, Barbara J. Elfman of Holliston, Robert F. Berini (Debra) of Holliston and James A. Berini (Liisa) of Mendon; his grandchildren Jason W. Elfman and his fianc?e Rhonda Landry of Blackstone, Jacqueline C. Elfman and her fianc?e Shawn Mahonec of Stafford Springs, Connecticut and Brooke Ann Berini, currently a member of the United States Army; his great-granddaughter, Miranda J. Beninati of Stafford Springs, Connecticut and his step-granddaughter, Celia Jennings of Hopkinton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by a brother Edmund Berini of Framingham and two sisters Lena Berini of Boston and Mary D. Foley of Holliston.
John was employed at the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge until his retirement and then drove school bus in Ashland for the Winterhalter Bus Company. He was a member of the Holliston Baptist Church. John served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. John was a 63 year member of the Masonic Lodges including Blue Lodge, Chapter, Council and Commandery. He was Past Master of John Warren Lodge, Hopkinton, Recipient of the Joseph Warren Medal for Distinguished Service; President of the District Past Masters Association; Past High Priest of Mt. Lebanon Royal Arch Chapter; Past District Deputy Grand High Priest for the 4th Capitular District (1987); Past Ill. Master of Milford Council; Past Commander of Milford Commandery; Past Grander Warder for the Grand Commandery of Massachusetts and Rhode Island (2003-2004); recipient of the Order of the Purple Cross; member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor (KYCH) and the recipient of the Paul Revere Medal. John was also Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Summit Chapter #32.
Visitation will take place on Monday, October 7, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com, with Masonic services to immediately follow. Burial will be held at a later date and will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory can be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607 or to the Holliston Baptist Church, 40 High St, Holliston, MA 01746.
