John “Jack” Henry Handren, 84, of Medway and formerly of Maine, died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at his home. Born in Newburyport, MA, he was the son of the late John Handren and Sarah “Sadie” (Chamberlain) Handren.

Jack was a military flight engineer in the Army Air Corp in WWII as a Cpl. He was employed as a borematics machinist at the G.E. plant in Lynn and Wilmington for 42 years where he made precision aircraft instruments and served as a union steward. Jack volunteered in charity, civic and service organizations throughout his life. He had a lifelong love of music and sang as tenor in the church choir and community choral societies. He enjoyed a 20-year retirement, pursuing talents as an avid gardener and farmer, amateur photographer and stained glass artisan.

He leaves a son, John Jr. of East Kingston N.H., 1 daughter, Meredith Louise Hanrahan-Boshes of Medway and her husband Dr. Roger Boshes, a sister, Jean Watt of Concord, MA, and five grandchildren: Natasha, Orion, Elektra, Evan, and Erica. John also leaves 3 great-grandchildren, Gianni, Christian and Ryan, and his previous wife, Marilyn Ireson Handren of Georgetown. He leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews, his faithful dog Goody and many beloved pets and a longtime friend, Bill W. He is predeceased by his 2 brothers, Gordon and Paul Handren; 2 sisters, Grace Lane and Virginia Corson; and a grandson, Emil Hahn.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, January 7, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home, 854 Washington St. (Rt. 16) Holliston. A funeral home service will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, at 10:00 am (with the Reverend Ernest Batten. Burial will follow in the Puritan Lawn Cemetery of Peabody, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to either the Pine Street Inn, Development Dept., 444 Harrison Ave., Boston, MA 02118-2404 or to Buddy Dog Humane Society, P. O. Box 296, Sudbury, MA 01776.
