Janice E. McIntyre, 42, of Hopkinton, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, after being stricken ill at her home.

Born in Marlborough, she was the daughter of Marie J. (Purdy) McIntyre of Hopkinton and the late Donald J. McIntyre.

She graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1979, Emerson College in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and Worcester State College in 1992 with a master’s degree in speech pathology. She was a speech and language pathologist for FLLAC School Collaborative, teaching special needs students.

She was a sign language instructor and worked extensively with Easter Seals Society. A versatile musician, she played trumpet, guitar and keyboard as well as being an accomplished singer. She was also an amateur photographer, disc jockey and a dedicated Boston Celtics fan. Long dedicated to the care and protection of animals, she raised two dogs on her own, Cooper and Riley.

Besides her mother, she leaves her partner of seven years, Christy C. Westbrook of Hopkinton; sister, Donna M. McIntyre of Hopkinton; brother, Donald J. McIntyre and his wife, Michelle, of Merrimac, N.H.; her godparents, John T. Purdy of Hudson and Lorraine Purdy of Hudson; nephew, Steven McIntyre of Merrimac; and several aunts and cousins.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 8:45 a.m., from Robert L. Chesmore Funeral Home, 57 Hayden Rowe St., Hopkinton, followed by a Liturgical Service of the Word, at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, 187 Hopedale St., Hopedale.

Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Hopkinton.

Visiting hours are Friday, Nov. 21, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
