James W. Butler, 80, of Holliston died Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Wayside Hospice in Wayland, MA. Born in Ottawa, Ohio, he was the son of the late Pauline (Echelbarger) and Daniel Butler. He was also the husband of 56 years to Wanda (Baughman) Butler of Holliston.
After graduating High School in Ohio in 1943, he enlisted in the Naval Pilot Training Program. He served in the Navy and Naval Reserves until 1972, retiring at a Lt. Commander. He received his BA degree in Mathematics at Ohio Wesleyan University and Master of Arts at Kent State University in Ohio. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, and keeping abreast of scientific developments.
He was an avid golfer and familiar face at
Pinecrest Country Club in Holliston, MA.
Mr. Butler began his civilian career as an early pioneer in digital computing at Goodyear Aircraft in 1951, later joining Honeywell Computer Division. He worked at the Framingham and Billerica locations and retired in 1984.
Besides his wife, he leaves 3 sons, Brian and his wife Joan of Holliston, Gregg of Uniontown, OH, and David and his wife Victoria of Dover, FL. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, Julia of PA., Lauren and Dana of Holliston, and Daniel, Jeffrey, and Jennifer of FL.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 19, at 11:00a.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. (RT. 16). Calling hours will take place on Tuesday, July 18, from 4-7p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private. www.chesmorefuneralhome.com
