Isabella Beatrice (Manning) Hines passed away on Friday, October 30, 2015. She had just turned 93. Isabel was predeceased in 1999 by her husband of 68 years, Joseph Michael Hines. Isabel grew up in Oakland, California.

Izzy was a 57 year resident of Holliston, a town she called home. While raising 4 children, she filled her time on the Conservation Commission, Friendly Aid, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Featherfin Board, Holliston Food Pantry, and the Republican Town Committee. Beyond Holliston, she prided herself on being a part of the early Board at Rosie’s Place, the Salvation Army’s West Suburban Chapter and the Physician’s for Social Responsibility as an ardent supporter of the quest to end Nuclear Power and corporate investment in such. Her protest of nuclear power ended in an arrest record for which she was proud. Her quest for justice was lived on a daily basis. Her lessons of not only remembering those who needed a helping hand, but taking action for them, are not lost on her family. An ardent, cover to cover, reader of the Boston Globe, it was always a topic of discussion when you walked through her door. Through music, Isabel always made sure that culture was a big part of her kids’ lives especially the BSO.

Isabel leaves four children and their spouses, Laura and Steve Kern; Bob and Lori Hines; Joanne Hines and Jerry Shaffer; and Lisa Hines and Ed Zielinski. She was the grandmother to Rebecca, Amanda, Tyler, Abby, Emma, Dillan, Jesse, Michelle and Tim, as well as a great grandmother. She and Joe were also Foster parents, and Izzy’s door was always open to the kids in town.

A private burial will take place in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Holliston Pantry Shelf, 23 Water Street, Holliston, MA 01746 or http://www.hollistonpantryshelf.org/donate.html would make Izzy smile.
