Gertrude M. Remby, 96, formerly of Hayden Rowe St. in Hopkinton, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Beaumont Nursing Center in Northborough. Born Gertrude Marie Houle in Franklin, MA; she grew up in Hyde Park, VT, married Edward Frederick Remby in 1938 and moved to Hayden Rowe in Hopkinton in 1941. Gertrude raised her 10 children by herself after the death of her husband in 1958.

Gertrude was a devoted contributor to many charities including Pine Street Inn, Mustard Seed, Heart Fund, Hospitality House, Catholic Women’s Guild, Westborough State Hospital, and St. John the Evangelist Parish.

She is survived by two sisters, Edna Gagner and Alice Stevenson both of Florida and ten children, Anne M. Remby of Arlington, MA; William E. Remby of Syracuse, NY; James R. Remby of Osterville, MA; Alvaretta J. Rosen of Shrewsbury, MA; Lorraine K. Remby of New Rochelle, NY; Thomas D. Remby of Los Angeles, CA.; Lawrence F. Remby of Cummington, MA; Mary L. Wynne of Madison, CT.; John P. Remby Sr. of Hopkinton, MA; and Alice M. Harwood of Bellingham, MA. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by two grandchildren, three sisters, and two brothers.

Calling hours will take place on Friday, August 7, 2009 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com. A Mass of christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hopkinton on August 8th at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations many be made to the Pine Street Inn, c/o Shauna Helton, 444 Harrison Ave. Boston, MA. 02118 or to the Hopkinton Food Pantry, 86 South St. Hopkinton, MA. 01748, or to the charity of ones choice.
