Gail Preston Longee, 77, died peacefully at the Timothy Daniels House in Holliston on June 6, 2012 following a period of declining health. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on February 18, 1935 the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Gropp) Preston.

She was the beloved and devoted wife and best friend of 55 years of the late Edward Stevenson “Steve” Longee of Sherborn. She was the mother of Cynthia L. Riordan and her husband, Charles, of Holliston; Betsy L. O’Riordan and her husband, John, of Mendon; Christopher P. Longee and his wife, Laurie, of Northbrook, Ill. and Bruce S. Longee and his wife, Kathy, of Holliston; and the cherished grandmother of five granddaughters and five grandsons. Gail is also survived by her sister Carolyn Cassell and her husband Frank of Edenton, N.C., 10 nieces and nephews, her sisters-in-law Lois Preston of Williamsburg, Va., and Gloria Longee of Newport News, Va., and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She was the
sister of the late Jeffrey Preston.

Gail has been a resident of Sherborn since 1966 and graduated from Endicott Junior College with the Class of 1955, receiving her Associate’s Degree in early childhood education. She taught nursery school and kindergarten before starting her family.

She was a fan of classical music and theater, and loved to travel with her beloved husband and children throughout Europe, especially visiting and living in Paris.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts in Gail’s memory may be made to: Endicott College, Institutional Advancement, 367 Hale Street, Beverly, MA 01915.

Arrangements are private at the request of the family and entrusted to the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston.
