Hopkinton-

Ernest P. Paolini, 92, of Hopkinton, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Genesis Healthcare in Milford. Born in Westborough, he was the son of the late Domenica (Moretti) and Adolpho Paolini. He was the husband of the late Gwendolyn Elizabeth (Adams) Paolini who passed in 2004.

Ernest attended school in Westborough and served in the US Navy during World War II. He survived the torpedo attack of the USS Ashtabula at Leyte Gulf in the Pacific, the largest naval attack in history.

He was an all-around machinst who retired from Noremac Manufacturing in 1987. Ernest shared his love of the outdoors with his family. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and excelled at figure skating. He shared his love of music often entertaining family and friends by playing classical accordion. He was very active at the Hopkinton Senior Center where he was a greeter and also very active with his church.

He is survived by his children, Robert Paolini and his wife Peggy Connelly of Hopkinton and Cheryl Goodman and her husband Leonard of Rockport; 5 grandchildren, Courtney, Sam, Matthew, Stephanie, Amanda, and 3 great-grandchildren, Molly, Sam and Ozzie. He also leaves his sisters, Mary LaPlante of Tennessee, Amena Paolini of Attleboro, and Gloria White and her husband Dennis of Hudson and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Rocco, Guido, Henry and Serafino and by his sisters Rose Ladd, Marguerite Santoro, Jeanne Trotta, Bernice Loncar and Ida Jskulka.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15th from 9:00a.m.-10:30a.m. at the Chesmore Funeral Home of Hopkinton, 57 Hayden Rowe St. www.ChesmoreFuneralHome.com A funeral service will be celebrated following visitation at 11:00a.m. at St. Paul’s Church in Hopkinton. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Hopkinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 61 Wood St. Hopkinton, MA 01748
