Holliston-
E. Hope Macewen, 87, of Holliston and North Truro passed away peacefully
at her Holliston home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 19, 2006.
Born and raised in Hopkinton, MA., she lived in Holliston for the last 54
years with her husband. Hope was the daughter of the late Ray H. and
Isabel C. (Hughes) Stratton. Her husband, Herbert F. Macewen, predeceased
her in 1991.

Hope graduated from Hopkinton High School in 1936 and received a
secretarial certificate from the former Becker Secretarial School in
Worcester. She worked for many years at Lombard (Governor Corporation) in
Ashland, then worked with her husband in their own business. She always
loved and raised many animals: cats, dogs, and even a monkey and chipmunk.
She just recently lost her constant companion for the last 13 years, her
second Standard Poodle, Seiko. She enjoyed the frequent herds of deer
visiting her backyard, the birds she fed outside her windows, and
sometimes the coyotes she would chase on her John Deere tractor. Hope and
Herb went on many extended hunting and fishing trips, traveled especially
to Maine and Cape Cod, golfed, and raised apples, peaches and Christmas
trees on their property. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Her
main hobbies of painting, drawing, and photography continued. She also
enjoyed spending time with her family and was a second mother to her
nieces. Hope’s recent caregivers have been her sister Leigh Groves of
Framingham and her great-niece Janine Larkin of Orange. Other survivors
include her two nieces Bonnie Groves of New Hampshire, Beverley Larkin and
her husband William of Orange; another great-niece Leigh Larkin of Newton,
a cousin Dorothy Hughes of Florida, and a neighbor and good friend Pam
Murray of Holliston.

Calling hours will begin at 10 am Monday, October 23, 2006 at the Chesmore
Funeral Home, 57 Hayden Rowe Street, Hopkinton with a funeral service to
follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mt.
Auburn Cemetary of Hopkinton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to MetroWest Hospice, 85 Lincoln Street, Framingham, MA 01702.
