Dorothy A. Duffey, 93, of Milford, formerly of Mashpee and Newton, passed away while surrounded by people she loved, on Sunday, March 27, 2022. Born in Brighton, MA, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Florence (Kenney) and James P.J. Gannon. She was the wife of the late James A. Duffey.
Dotty was known as the “Hostess with the Mostest”. She loved to entertain and her guests knew they were in for a memorable experience. Her annual New Year’s Day party for women only, the “Hen Party”, was an event many looked forward to. It was an afternoon filled with much laughter and good food.
Dotty was very active at Christ the King Parish in Mashpee before her move to Milford seven years ago. She was a Eucharistic Minister, a lady of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, a wedding coordinator, and a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul ministry, among other things. She received the “Queen of all Saints” award from the parish for her volunteering.
She worked for many years at New England Telephone (now Verizon) and fondly recalled to us the days when she was a switchboard operator. She very much enjoyed cruising with her husband and their dear friends on the QE2.
She loved the time in her life when she raised her family. Once a grandmother, she frequently lent a hand to care for her grandchildren. In recent years, she adored spending time with her 10 great grandchildren and her face would light up when she saw them.
She developed many wonderful bonds with the caring and loving staff at Cornerstone of Milford and her family is ever grateful for their dedication to her care.
Dotty is survived by her children, Maureen Giles and her husband, Kenneth of Medway; J. Michael Duffey and his wife, Kerin of Davis, CA; and Jacqueline Anderson and her husband, Philip of Alton Bay, NH. She also leaves behind her sisters, Barbara Murphy of Yorktown, VA, Jeanne Dunn of Saugus, and half-sister Mary Engels of Milton, NH; 6 grandchildren, Janet Rogenski (Brett), Pamela Terra (Marco), James Giles (Katie), Gregory Anderson (Lucy), Timothy Anderson (Amanda) and Heidi Anderson, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter, Patricia J. Duffey and her sister, Elizabeth Jones.
All are welcome to attend her funeral service on Saturday, April 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at the Newton Cemetery Chapel, 791 Walnut St. A private inurnment with family will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund, jimmyfund.org. Arrangements are under the care of the Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston.
