Prior to graduating Framingham North High School in 1977, I studied karate at Walter Mattson\'s studio. It was there that I met Clark Jones. As a teen whose direction in life was still quite uncertain, Clark and the other instructors served as great role models as to what could be accomplished with some focus, dedication, and good old-fashioned hard work. I just learned of Clark\'s passing through another martial artist, and my sympathies go out to the family unreservedly. I was actually quite inspired when I saw a newspaper article showing Clark giving a demo to a clinic of wheelchair users, where I believe they employed karate moves such as two-handed blocks, and strikes to enhance their mobility, improve circulation, and reduce emotional stress. In time, I shipped off for the military, and my time in Framingham was over, though I will never forget the positive energy and constructive challenges that came out of that sweaty dojo with Clark Jones those years ago. Clark, in my book, you have now made 10th Dan!

Dear Louise, I am very sad to have received this news today and send our best wishes to you and family in this time. Being involved with you and Clark at the old Dojo in Shrewsbury were truly wonderful times for me. I appreciate everything that he taught me and it was through learning Uechi Ryu from him that really helped me through some rough times. He was a wonderful and giving man but I'm sure you realize that more than anyone. Matt

Louise, I am very sorry to learn of Clark’s passing. He was a pleasure to know in the years that I was able to attend Walter’s classes with him. Clark was a competent, even tempered, sincere guy who knew and loved his art. I would be hard put to name a more enjoyable and helpful man to share dojo time with. His is a big loss to you, your family snd the Uechi community. May his memory bring smiles and warm thoughts to you forever. Paul Simons

Dear Jessica, My heart aches for you. I know how close you and Dad were. It's been a long time since we have communicated, but I always remember you. I remember Dad so clearly and how much he loved you. Attending every dance recital and supporting you. I know how hard it is to lose someone you love as I have lost my son and Grandson. Try to keep the sweet memories always it really helps. Please know I am thinking of you and sending love and sympathy.. Dawnette Niro Fort Myers, Fl.

I have had the most distinct pleasure of knowing Clark for over a dozen years. A nicer person of higher character you could NEVER meet in ten life times! This is very sad news, and we have lost an absolute gem of a person. At the same time, Clark is finally at peace, and for that we musty all be thankful. Louise and Jess -- please accept my very deepest condolences for your (OUR) loss. Clark was absolutely a once in a lifetime guy, and he will be sincerely missed. God speed, Clark, my friend. Jay

Louise and Jess, my heart is with you both. My prayers are with your family. Clark was so very special and I am so truly grateful to have had him for so many years as my Sensei. He was so genuine and so selfless. He cared about each and every student that walked thru his Dojo. I feel so blessed to have learned so many lessons not just in Karate but about life from a man that lived his words each and everyday. I always thought being a skater for so many years I knew how to handle nerves and handle situations that weren't always so perfect. Clark taught me how to be calm in a storm. To understand that it wasn't about being perfect but about walking in the door with a mind set to work as hard as you can that day and whatever you do you know that you trained hard and gave it your all. I thank him helping me find this incredible art form, Karate. He was so proud of all his students and always appreciated the simple little things yet he made them so big. I feel so truly blessed to have been part of his Karate family and all the amazing people that have been part of the Dojo for so many years. I will miss all his stories he would tell and his fun expressions he used when he taught his class and most of all his infectious laugh you could here a mile away! Clark thank you for all your lessons and thank you for caring so much. We all will miss you but there will never be a time where I don't walk into the Dojo thinking of you and remembering the gifts you have given. End of the class bow dear Sensei....... I nod with a smile! 🙂

I am saddened to hear of the passing of my first karate instructor. Clark’s compassion, dedication, and teaching philosophy drew in a timid 16 year old, weary of having the capability, to train in martial arts and for many years. Fast forward 25+ years later, I have been and will forever be grateful for Clark’s initial teaching and training that has had a big impact on my life. My thoughts and prayers are with Louise and his family during this sad and difficult time. With deepest sympathy, Becky Nigro

Dedicated, devoted, intense, wiley and yes, sometimes even wise. Clark was implacable. If Clark decided to follow a course there was no barrier too high, no ditch too deep, no distraction too intense and no event created by man or God that could change his direction. Clark was an irresistible force that would not tolerate immovable objects. When stopped, he would simply re-engineer reality and carry on as planned. He was ravaged, needy, fierce, suspicious, witty, loyal, sly and pure. Clark generated an energy field that pulled followers into its orbit like a great star draws in planets. Karate was his force and he deployed that force with the skills of a great samurai. He could be a student, teacher, father, lover, friend, antagonist and protagonist .... all in one breath. He will be missed by many

I knew Clark at Holliston High School, back in the early 1970's and considered him one of my best friends. Always quiet and unassuming, he went through life with with a peaceful demeanor, you would never know he was proficient in Karate. I found he was taking and teaching classes at 15 years old and he was good at teaching even then. So sad to hear of his passing.
